How to Culture Fruit Flies with Repashy Superfly

5th Floor Xotics - Superfly Mix

Fruit flies, they’re the little pests that you can’t seem to get rid of, but did you know that they can also make a great food source for your pet dart frogs and other small reptiles and amphibians?  Well, now you do. And with the help of Repashy Superfly, culturing fruit flies is easier than you might think. But before you start breeding your own army of fruit flies, let me give you the rundown on how to do it.

Here are the steps you need to take to culture fruit flies using Repashy Superfly:

  1. Get yourself a container: You can use anything from a plastic container to a mason jar. Just make sure it has a tight-fitting lid and some ventilation holes and/or a screen.
  2. Add some Repashy Superfly: You can use  Repashy Superfly as a substrate. Just make sure it’s moist and not too wet. See directions below for mixing Repashy.
  3. Add surface material:  Add Coffee filters or Excelsior (Wood Wool) for the flies to walk on to space them out for longevity and less stress.
  4. Add your fruit flies: You can purchase flightless fruit flies from a pet store or online seller.
  5. Keep it warm: Fruit flies like it warm, so make sure the container is kept in a warm area, around 80-85°F (27-29°C)
  6. Wait for the magic to happen: Your flies will start reproducing in no time, and before you know it, you’ll have a whole army of fruit flies.
  7. Harvest your flies: Once your flies have populated enough, you can use them to feed your dart frogs. Just remember to keep an eye on the population and harvest them before they start to overcrowd the container.
