A Guide to Keeping a Green Bottle Blue Tarantula (Cyanopelma cyaneopubescens)

Scientific Name: Cyanopelma cyaneopubescens

Husbandry Parameters:

  • Housing: A terrarium with a minimum size of 10 gallons or more. Ensure there is enough space for hiding spots, climbing (although this species is terrestrial,) and burrowing.
  • Substrate: A mixture of coconut coir and sphagnum moss. Keep it slightly moist and deep enough for burrowing.
  • Temperature: Keep the terrarium between 75-80°F (24-27°C)
  • Humidity: Maintain a relative humidity of 60-70%. Mist the enclosure regularly and provide a shallow water dish.
  • Lighting: Green bottle blue tarantulas do not require special lighting.
  • Feeding: Offer live crickets or mealworms once a week. May be longer in between feedings the larger the pet.
  • Handling: We do not recommend handling. Handle with caution. Green bottle blue tarantulas are known to be skittish and may bite. They also have urticating hairs on their abdomen that they will kick off when threatened.

Note: These parameters are general guidelines and may vary depending on the individual tarantula. It’s important to observe your pet and make adjustments as necessary.
